Machine designers often search for a compact, durable slide that offers smooth, precise movement while operating quietly. In the past, finding a linear slide that met all these criteria was a challenge. Today, advancements in slide unit technology have made it possible to achieve these qualities in a single unit.


Manufacturers of linear slides continuously innovate ball, raceway table, and track configurations to enhance travel accuracy and reduce friction. By using high-quality materials and specialized resins, these manufacturers produce precision linear slides that deliver outstanding performance and durability across various industries, including measuring instruments, disk drives, semiconductor manufacturing, and inspection equipment.


For instance, IKO designs precision linear slide units using stainless steel raceway tables and track rails. The steel balls are arranged in two rows, contacting the raceways at four points for consistent load stability. The raceways and rails are precision-ground to minimize noise and deliver ultra-smooth, low-friction motion. Even over short strokes, these high-precision linear guides ensure exceptional accuracy. Additionally, their simple and compact design makes them ideal for use in space-limited applications.


Selecting the right linear slide for your application is crucial. IKO offers four main types of precision linear slide units to accommodate a range of requirements:


BSP Non-recirculating Type: These units feature a synthetic resin retainer that secures the balls and eliminates noise from ball contact. They provide smooth, lightweight movement over short strokes without experiencing stick-slip interruptions. Available in widths from 7 mm to 25 mm, with track lengths from 15 mm to 100 mm.


BSPG Non-recirculating Type: These unit includes a rack and pinion mechanism that interacts with the raceway table and track to prevent cage creeping, ensuring reliable accuracy. Widths range from 12 mm to 25 mm, with track lengths from 25 mm to 100 mm.


BSR Recirculating Type: Equipped with a synthetic resin circulator to recirculate the balls, this model supports longer stroke lengths while maintaining low noise levels. Available in widths from 12 mm to 25 mm, with track lengths from 30 mm to 100 mm.


BWU Non-recirculating Type: Designed for applications that demand high rigidity, even under fluctuating or complex loads. This unit offers widths as small as 6 mm and track lengths up to 120 mm. Stainless steel is used for all steel components.
